Seeds Are Breaking Open

Jesus reminds us
that faith need only be
the size of a mustard seed.
Something tiny,
yet holding within it
the promise of something far greater.
Perhaps the Kingdom of Heaven
grows here on earth
in much the same way.
Unnoticed.
Often hidden from view,
but quietly taking root.
Every day,
somewhere around us,
a doctor walks into a hospital room
carrying good news.
Strangers feed strangers.
Someone chooses forgiveness
when resentment would have been easier.
Someone befriends a lonely person.
Someone who thought
they were finished with God
finds the courage
to begin the journey back.
Small moments.easy to overlook,
yet each one reveals
something greater at work.
Seeds of the Kingdom
quietly taking root
among us.
Most of them
will never make the evening news.
There will be no urgent voice announcing
something good happened today.
Goodness has always been quieter
than its various opponents.
Like a seed,
goodness makes no sound
when it breaks open.
No one hears
the first root
enter the dark soil.
No one hears the first green shoot
begin reaching toward the light.
And yet, it rises.
Perhaps this is why
Jesus spoke of the mustard seed.
He knew how easily
we could mistake smallness
for insignificance.
He knew there would be days
when the darkness would seem larger
than the light.
Days when suffering
would fill our vision
and make us wonder
where God could possibly be.
The suffering of our world is real.
But it is not the whole story.
The Kingdom of Heaven
is also among us.
Often working
like a mustard seed.
Small enough to be overlooked.
Yet carrying within it
the promise
of something greater.
And beneath the noise,
beneath the sorrow,
beneath all that seems broken,
the Kingdom
is quietly taking root,
nourished by the rich soil
of faith lived out in love.
Reaching through the darkness.
Stretching toward the Light.
Somewhere,even now,
in a place where no one is watching,
another seedis breaking open.
